A brief bit of our history

From the earliest days of Fort Saskatchewan, there has been an Anglican presence in the community which grew up around the North West Mounted Police "Fort on the Saskatchewan," Beginning in 1875, Anglican priests brought the Sacraments to the Fort and established regular patterns of worship.

In 1895, St. George's was established as a Parish Church, and the first Church was constructed at the present site, the intersection of 99th Avenue and 101st Street. The years have seen two rectories (one of which served double duty as a parish hall) on the grounds, and, in 1951, the present Church was built. Fane Memorial Hall was added in 1984, and has been the site of many parish and community events since its construction.

St. George's is an active member of the Fort Saskatchewan community, with members involved in local and municipal committees and councils, local service organizations, and clubs. One of the most visible activities of the Parish in the wider community is the July 1st, our parish meals (St George's Day & Fall Supper), and Seniors' Kitchen.

We have participated in many projects, and we've made Youtube! This video clip was part of the General Synod "Amazing Together" project in November 2008.
